Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)
obviously the polling system is retarded. it's pretty much the most unscientific poll ever conducted. ever. there's no rhyme or reason to create the poll or how it is tallied other than to make douchebags think that david guetta actually dj's. or that steve angello actually dj's. or that daft punk actually dj's. or that if you throw a few tracks together in a mix and let people download it for free b/c you've labelled it a 'dj radio show' that they're actually qualified to make judgments.
so again, the way they poll is downright re-re. and i don't know how anyone could take this even half seriously. even the people who salivate at the name "Armin" realize that david guetta is a goddamn joke.
I'm not here to say who is and who is not the 'best' dj. But I do know which ones really have that talent to move a dancefloor, to play to large and small clubs, and to pack them week in and week out. And I think most of you know who these dj's are, too.
Whoever said this is hurting the EDM scene is spot-the-fuck-on. When people like Digweed, Cox, Sasha, Cattaneo, Hawtin, and Zabiela drop off the top 100 (not to mention the dozens upon dozens of others who already have), they will be less and less likely to tour, less and less likely to attract enough attention to do club nights in venues far and wide. Marco Carola's views are, imho, wrong. It means more young producers will be more attracted to writing trance-in-your-pants tracks to make a quick buck on major trance labels. And that means fewer kids writing prog/house/(t)rance/techno music.
I'm actually kinda fucking surprised that Dj Pauly D did not show up in the Top100.
I'm not saying John Digweed needs to be #1. But when David dipshit Guetta takes the top spot....even ahead of Armin van Buuren (who is, in my estimate, a talented dj and producer) then you know there is an imbalance in the universe.
In a rare instance, i find myself in agreeance with Deadmaus. Even HE agrees he aint a dj, yet he's ranked in the top 10. Awkward. I'll actually give him a little more respect for pointing out the hypocrisy of it all.
I feel the worst for the dnb lovers and breakbeat fans. Atrocious. I'm wondering if they even have a scene anymore? I remember it being a fairly large scene years ago, but now look at it. As far as I can tell, it's relegated to basement parties and the occasional club.
I wonder if the editors at DJmag have realized how fucked things are lol
I've got more thoughts on this, but i'll post them later.
Oh,
and this isn't my worst nightmare, which is, by the way, when justin beiber fancies himself a laptop with a mixing program and starts writing pop music. it'll be the end, for sure. david guetta 'spreads house music' like cancer. yeah, it spreads, but it's also shit.you could put an Emfire release on for 2 minutes and you would be a sleep before it finishes - Chunky
it's RA. they'd blow their load all over some stupid 20 minute loop of a snare if it had a quirky flange setting. - Tiddles

Next year I I think we should get as many people as possible to vote accordingly:
1. Rihanna
2. Lady Gaga
3. Madonna
4. Kate Perry
5. Justin Bieberyou could put an Emfire release on for 2 minutes and you would be a sleep before it finishes - Chunky

Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)
But hasn't the progressive/minimal/tech whatever you want to label it, in majority remained pretty underground?
Yeah maybe it boomed for a while at the turn of the millennium when Digweed and Sasha did some heavy touring e.g. Delta Heavy and some major promoting from Renaissance and the likes, but it was more of the club nights and the solid mix records being brought out that sustained through this era that was dominated by our respected heroes.
However in today's day and age you are classified big by turning up to festivals and putting on fireworks displays or collaborating with pop/rap stars to produce songs, which has an p-h-a-t beat.
I still think good music still exists; there are still some amazing djs/producers out there who may solely rely on club nights or a season residence, mix CD's and EP's to further promote their work, albeit on requiring work to hunt down tour dates or record release dates. Which is where the interwebs to the modern generation has helped so much; we don't need to go to record stores and sample records/CD's, we can expect how the vibe of a show can be through gaining tracklists and youtube videos days beforehand. Take soundcloud for example, I can literally spend days there checking out random people from around the world, some being bedroom DJ's and sample some pretty fn good tunes. I don't think we could have done that even 5 let alone 10 years ago.
No you're never going to get someone who mixes on vinyl's like a Jeff Mills, nor a craftsman on the mixer like a John Digweed, but I believe people are slightly over reacting to the concern that good music is dying, and everything being too commercial.
I remember someone posted up the RA 2001 top 100 and everyone was in love, but just look at the year after:
2002 RA top 100:
01. Tiesto
02. Sasha
03. John Digweed
04. Paul Van Dyk
05. Armin Van Buuren
06. Paul Oakenfold
07. Judge Jules
08. Carl Cox
09. Ferry Corsten
10. Lee Burridge
again, dominated by trance, as opposed to 2001:
01. John Digweed
02. Sasha
03. Danny Tenaglia
04. Paul Van Dyk
05. Paul Oakenfold
06. Tiesto
07. Carl Cox
08. Mauro Picotto
09. Steve Lawler
10. Deep Dish
Music will always be a personal affinity and will remain till the end of the times, but until then I may enjoy some modern day music as much as the classical day, in retrospect did you ever think Beethoven's 5th or Vivaldi's Four Seasons could have remained till this day as one of the most known pieces of work?
So if the majority of this day's generation loves David Guetta so be it, I don't care nor giving a single fuck that day. I still have my moments with some classical sets ranging from the late 90's and then switching to the modern day radio shows, and think yes things have changed but it's still sounding as good as it ever was. Makes me bop and that's all I ever ask for from EDM.

Yes indeed, and I thank Mariner for stressing my own points, only in English
. It has become a Pop Top100. Bring in The Situation and Snookie too, next year.
I know what DJ Mag and Guetta are thinking right now
