The thing about a taser though is that it does the job much quicker...instead of constantly trying to fight with a subject who's (obviously) refusing your orders to comply and/or possibly resisting arrest, just nail 'em with the thing and within a couple of seconds they're much easier to bring into control. As police forces typically do things "by any means necessary," sure there's the fine line on that, but if it can get the job quickly and the subject won't suffer (yea that's debatable, but people have died in other struggles w/o the things), wouldn't you do the same thing? Sure beats striking them with a nightstick or something, which causes some lasting damage even if for a few days...heck regardless you're put on leave of some caliber now as is unless simple overpowering is done to arrest someone.

as threehills said, the pressure point thing is just as effective, but unless you're perfect and quick to slap one on an area, even that can be tough to pull off to get a subject under control who's mad struggling.

Unless there's a video that shows the threat of tasering and doing such within a non-ample time of compliance after the order (which I believe is also why you often hear such threat repeated more then once before it happens), I'll say it again...people are too fucking stupid (since they refuse to comply enough as is) if they think a cop is merely using the suggestion of tasering as an idle threat....

This kid regardless got far more then he bargained for..make him think twice about pulling a stunt again.

Gotta agree with that, and i have to say that even being Dutch I do agree with Miro as well.

Some people think freedom of speech is also freedom to say anything, do anything and whatnot. Too many people acting like assholes defending themselves with 1st amendment or something similar in the US and elsewhere (in my country there's a few major assholes going round right now).

Sometimes I wonder where the respect has gone in expressing one's opinion these days.

Two things:

1. The guys was being a complete douche. Taking steps to make sure he was videotaped making a scene at a rally is really pathetic.

2. The police used more force than was necessary to deal with the situation. FFS, by the time he was tasered, he was like 10 feet from the door. The dude's an attention whore, just get him out of the room and it's over.

A pox on both their houses, IMO.

hahaha, I was probably the most lax cop ever. I just did the job cause it was fun driving around with lights and sirens, WOOAWOO! not becuase I had a power trip like a lot of the other guys, just something I wanted to do for a year or two before getting serious. (in med school now). I actually only had my balls grabbed by a teenage girl (they fight harder than anyone else) and I didn't taze her, I asked for her number, lol.

EDIT: Okay, watched the video again closely at the suggestion of others. They officers were clearly having a hard time getting him in cuffs. I agree he is not pulling hair, and that his left hand is not doing anything but you can't see his right. He probably wasn't grabbing nads with it, but he might have been grabbing something. I would probably agree that he didn't need to be tazed to be brought into compliance. There are other methods, primarily PPCT (pressure point control techniques) that you can use on a subject, esepecially when they are on the ground. BUT...those take time to do. Basically you bring a serve amount of pain to the person by pressing and flexing joints, tendons and nerves. You shout commands like "HAND BEHIND YOUR BACK" gradually increasing the amount of pressure until the subject complies. You are not going to do any long term damage, but it hurts like all hell. But things like PPCT are tough to do at times espeically when in fairly confided (pressed against auditorium seats) spaces and the such. So upon further review, I don't think the tazer was absolutely necessary, but at the same time, some level of force was required to bring him into compliance. The thing that is debatable is whether it should it have gotten to that point in the first place. Maybe turning off the microphone would have been a better option.

If he was just trying to ask a question, a question he was interested in knowing the answer to, don't you think he would have told the person to film Kerry and not himself? Clearly, by instructing the filmer to film himself and not kerry, he had other intentions than just "asking a question".

As to the use of force, WE DONT" KNOW if the cops were justified to use the tazer or not. YES, we can see that he was on the ground and that cops were around him...but we can't see everything else. Maybe he had his hand wrapped around the female cops hair and was pulling it, maybe he was grabbing the nuts of one of the cops. As a former cop myself, this has happened to me. just because he is on the ground does not mean the "fight" is over by any instances. You do not relax until he is fully handcuffed and secured.

I am not saying whether or not he deserved to be tazed, but neither can you as you don't know what was going on inside the huddle.

I disagree. Every time something like this happens I always hear this chorus of "hey the MAN'S trying to get him down! Fight the power!" Actually, police were justified in what they did and the kid had it coming.

It's so cute when these college age morons think that they're Paul Revere or something and that the Constitution makes them invincible. Maybe homeboy should get out of the bong haze long enough to learn that:

1. The First Amendment ONLY says "CONGRESS shall make no law" abridging your freedom of speech, NOT that you can unilaterally take control of a public or private forum and subject people to any form of inappropriate personal behavior or speech without censure.

2. "Police harrassment" does NOT constitute forcibly resisting arrest for several minutes. When the police have made the choice to exercise restraint on you, it doesn't matter what the issue at hand is and how you feel about your justification. Police have the duty and right to get physical with you at that point if you fight them. Unless you want that to happen, you shut the fuck up and walk out quietly.



Yes, it does take 5 cops to subdue a fucking kid when the kid is forcibly resisting arrest and they're trying to contain him in as much of a restrained manner as they can so that neither you nor anyone else nor the kid himself really gets harmed. Keep in mind that when the cops start, they don't know how much this little pissant is going to resist them anyways. It would be easy for a big cop to come and clock the fucker and drag him out, but the cops aren't that stupid - they know that every single thing they do will be scrutinized to the extreme and have potential personal legal consequences.

I concur - reminds of that spoiled little bitch from UCLA that got tazed.
