Ruby on Rails is an open source web framework. It's famously simple to build a basic Rails application. Once you've started down the track, however, you discover that Rails is a powerful, deep, and rich full-stack platform capable of tackling virtually any development challenge.
Rails 4 in Action is a fully-revised second edition of Rails 3 in Action. This hands-on, comprehensive introduction to Rails gives readers everything they need to become competent and confident Rails developers. It shows how to develop a ticket tracking application that includes RESTful routing, authentication and authorization, file uploads, email, and more. It explores powerful features like designing APIs and building a Rails engine. The book also provides Test Driven Development and Behavior Driven Development in action throughout the book—just like in a top Rails shop.

    Forgot I also finished this:

This was ok. More like a 200 page rant of how dumb the CIA / State Dept is and how corrupt Saudi Arabia is.

    3/5.

It was good. Interesting inside stories of the 2012 election and it was an entertaining read. As the NY Times reviewer pointed out, the authors seemed to have their thesaurus handy because they kept using crazy words you wouldn't normally hear to describe something in place of something more common. That was a bit annoying but otherwise good stuff.

I've been on a book buying binge lately and prob have 25 new books I've bought in the last 6 months.

Ambivalent about it. Pitched as his first adult novel since American Gods but it's actually a young adult novel because the premise is an adult protagonist flashing back to an incident in his childhood.

Otherwise it's good ol' Gaiman: well-written, some supernatural horror, and myths.

He claims this is his most personal story yet, but over the years, IMO, Gaiman just feels like he's cruising on auto. He's an innate storyteller and the craft is always evident in the writing, but a lot of the stories lack a huge impact to me. Nothing he's written comes close to American Gods.

Still on The Republic of Thieves, 10% left. Going slow because the novel introduced some flashback interludes that I'm finding uninteresting, while the current timeline's plot has revealed a 'twist' that I'm not sure helps with anything and could possibly ruin the original appeal of the character and the nature of the stories.
