Re: The Official Layoff Thread!!!
On a positive note, I found another job and start first of April. I got laid off end of February with severance so I'll actually make out on the positive side of this. I can go have fun at WMC and start the following week.

Re: The Official Layoff Thread!!!
Add me to this one - out of work this week after a long wait for the dreaded axe to fall
oh fuck i dunno what i'm gonna do really but have survived till now by whatever it takes to get by so guess i'll just keep doing that..
England is a shithole at the moment and most of the people here doing ok for themselves seem to be the ones who profit out of the misery of others.
People are losing their homes and jobs left right and centre while the people who fucked the whole thing up parade round in porsches.
Thank you mrs thatcher for fucking up every industry this nation ever had going for it and smashing the communities and souls of the people who built the place and made you rich. Shipbuilding, steel, coal, cars, utilities, transport, etc etc -it was all either sold off or dismantled to be replaced by nothing more than bullshit.
The 25th anniversary of the miner's strike this year will hopefully see that bitch fucking die - she was happy to starve families into submission rather than be seen to be weak or lose face or even see reason - coming from a family of proud irish miners i look forward to pissing on her grave.
rant over - feel better now - thanksLeave a comment:

Accountants Inc. They started out as a San Francisco Finance-focused recruiter but they're now a part of Randstad Corp.
I guess it just tells me what I already knew... That they have a surplus of people like me...but too few clients willing to hire us and pay them for the connection.Leave a comment:

Which recruiting company did that recruiter work for? I work for a staffing company that just went through some recent cutbacks. Lucky for me I survived the first round.Leave a comment:

So here's how you know the economy is bad:
One of the main recruiters I've been working with to find a job since I've been laid off...just got laid off.

In another promising omen, I just noticed this thread currently has 1,666 views.

Re: The Official Layoff Thread!!!
I've just made it through the layoffs @ my company. Over 300 went while the administrators came in and sold us. Luckily I survived it though. I reckon that I could pick up a contract somewhere without too much trouble, but I don't fancy trying the theory out though - Especially with a wife & three kids to support and no savings to speak off.
The good news is that the mortgage is down from £500 to £130 because I didn't take out a new fixed rate deal when the old one finished last year. That was a nice piece of free advice from my Financial Advisor.Leave a comment:

Re: The Official Layoff Thread!!!
Our union representatives have been called to a meeting today. The company wants to cut our salary's (We have already taken a 20% cut) even more. They want to reduce shift premiums which will only come into effect when we go back on to shift, which will be when the company is performing well. and they want us to go on a Job share which would maybe mean working a 4 day week loosing even more of our salary's. Last week it emerged that they are now financing the Formula 1 Team that they sold to Ross Brawn.
Something is seriously wrong the company is clearly taking advantage of the current situation. If a company can't run without exploiting its work force it shouldn't be running at all. What are they going to suggest next? "Rounding up some homeless dudes and getting them to work for free". It feels like we are being forced into Economic Slavery

Re: The Official Layoff Thread!!!
The may use leases, but quite a few large companies still got a better cost benefit of just buying their planes - most variable costs still fall on the user, anyways. I know, because I worked for one of those companies that made those private jets, and we're all getting laid off now.Leave a comment:

Few companies have private jets anymore, most use timeshares if they do. I do know that Tiesto owns his own private Gulf Stream.

God it makes me angry reading this!! The average working guy is being forced onto unliveable wages,or losing his job, and the Ceos are still flitting around the country in their private jets. !!Leave a comment:

Re: The Official Layoff Thread!!!
Sorry to hear that, but be glad you're not taking a 100% pay cut, like a bunch of us are these days.
Congrats on landing on your feet... I sure wish I had a CPA these days from a security standpoint.Leave a comment:

Sux to hear that man, I knew you said you were worried the other day. You know my situation, I'm in town till the end of the month then moving in with Moms over outside of Laffayette. They just cut my yearly income by 7500....just can't stay in Nola anymore w/ that kind of cut

Yeah we have been laid off for 4 months, taken a 17% pay cut and the company is now meeting with the Union to negotiate another pay cut.Leave a comment:
