But I don't understand this, I heard that in the UK the holiday is on Monday; Isn't the workers' day on the 1st of May worldwide? Isn't it an international thing?

We call it Mayday bank holiday here Shiva which is the first monday of may..
Brits like their beer traditionally and to many people monday is just a hangover so national holidays tend to be a monday for that reason.

In Mexico 5 de Mayo is not even celebrated as much as it is in the USA, yeah its a holiday, but people dont look at it the way its looked upon in the US, i mean, shit you go to the stores here in Texas and you see billboards, decorations all sorts of shit to celebrate something that we Mexicans dont even care that much about.
