Artist Biography

Real Name: Matthew Dekay
Genre: tech/progressive house

As far as DJ/producers go Matthew Dekay has always been a name synonymous with quality productions and high energy live performances. From a very young age Matthew studied piano and this highly developed skill has become an integral part of his productions.

Over the years and following an albeit brief, yet very successful period in Dutch pop during the late nineties, Matthew moved into more underground musical circles and it was with releases such as the “Dekay meets Beastie Boys bootleg of “Intergalactic" in 2003, "Higher Thoughts” in 2004 and “Bad” in 2005 that he really cemented his place in the dance music scene.

Matthew was able to develop his sound while playing extended sets as resident of esteemed club “Stalker” in his hometown of Haarlem, Holland. From his close relationship with Dutch mega promoters Extrema, he released mix compilation"Time to Think" which became the official soundtrack to the Outdoor festival in 2003. He then went on to make the highly sought after and respected Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 in 2004 and released his critically acclaimed Trousy compilation in 2005.

After moving to NYC in 2008 to work with some of the most talented singers and songwriters in the business,Matthew was commissioned by Beck’s Beer to remix Ladyhawke’s Magic for their Music Inspired Art project. Upon completion, Matthew made the decision to expand his studio to Berlin and get back to his underground roots. Working with UK legend Lee Burridge has been a major inspiration musically and groove driven electronica is the new direction for Matthew’s upcoming productions.

Always at the forefront of technology, 2009 has seen Matthew take to the world’s stages with a brand new DJ setup and live show he has been developing for over a year and has made his performances more interactive and exciting than ever before. Matthew also has a new studio partner Canadian rising star Jimmy Vallance and together they are embarking on a new commercial side project with a Bryan Adams collaboration pinned as their first release.

The first 6 months of 2010 have been absolutely crazy for Matthew Dekay! Since relocating to Berlin in late 2009 things have never been better for the native Dutchman. With a busy tour schedule that has taken him to audiences in Hungary, Dubai, Bulgaria, Spain, Romania, Columbia and Argentina with a new cutting-edge live setup to play his brand of undeniably groove driven, ass shakin’ tech house to keep these clubbers across the globe dancing til the sun comes up!

June has also seen him play for the first time at Space in Ibiza after many previous seasons spent behind the decks at Amnesia. Headlining party PUSH PUSH, dedicated to showcasing the latest sounds of Berlin and with top billing for new 2010 season Wednesday night party KehaKuma alongside Guy Gerber, Jamie Jones and Lee Curtis has certainly cemented Matthew’s place once again at the top of his game with his new musical direction.

The rest of Summer is also looking busy for Matthew with upcoming gigs in Norway, Macedonia, Hungary and the Kazantip Festival in Ukraine. Taking over the airwaves he has just done a live mix on Ibiza Global Radio, Ibiza Sonica and will be featured in a “Berlin Special” upcoming edition of the world renowned show Dance Department and has just been asked to do a guest spot on P3 Dans on Swedish National Radio by Scandanavia’s sweetheart DJ La Fleur

After nearly a 3 year break from production Matthew is now back in the studio and working harder than ever. His new track “Wongel” a collaboration with UK legend Lee Burridge is already one of the biggest tunes of the summer since being signed to Nick Curly’s Cecile Records after it’s debut at this year’s WMC. And just when you thought it could’t get any better the track has been included on the latest Cocoon “Party Animals” compilation CD and a remix by Russia’s hottest new talent Nina Kraviz will also be included on the upcoming official release in August.

Well respected Quebec based label Monique Musique is also feeling the Dekay love with a remix of Jimmy Vallance – Stay in Touch coming out this summer which has already been lighting dancefloors on fire around the world thanks to early support from DJ's Cassy, Steve Lawler, Satoshi Tomiie and Spencer Parker and a new tune “Tauben” together with Maher Daniel recently signed and due for pressing very soon…. Matthew has also just finished putting his signature on a remix for Norwegian club king Nils Noa’s latest track Floyta, to be released on Troll Records next month and a special remix for Space Ibiza longtime resident Elio Riso’s new track is on its way too.

With even more fresh tunes in the arsenal and ready to fire onto music lovers everywhere, the this is only the beginning of what is shaping up to be a massive start to the new decade for Matthew Dekay!
